VAR Officials Dropped After Controversial Manchester Derby Decision
The controversy surrounding Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Manchester United has continued after two VAR officials were stood down from the next round of Premier League matches.
VAR official Matt Donohue and assistant VAR Blake Antrobus were removed from their upcoming assignments after Pro Ref, the body responsible for Premier League refereeing, admitted that a mistake was made when Erling Haaland’s winning goal was allowed to stand.
Haaland’s goal was initially ruled offside before VAR overturned the decision. However, Pro Ref later acknowledged that the review failed to properly consider the involvement of Manchester City teammate Enzo Fernández, who was in an offside position and attempted to play the ball.
The decision has attracted significant criticism because Manchester City went on to win the derby despite playing with 10 men for more than an hour following Phil Foden’s red card.
It is sure news at Sureforebet that the two VAR officials are not expected to return to Premier League duty until after the international break.
The incident has once again put the spotlight on VAR and the consistency of refereeing decisions in the Premier League, which is what football fans and bettors all over the world have been talking about and sureforebet will continue to bring up-to-date information in the football world on our blog post.
